Biosphere Study Group, Department of Geology and Mineralogy, Division of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Graduate School of Science, Kyoto University

Research

We are studying on history of the biosphere, past geological events, and their interrelations based on informations from sedimentary rocks, ancient animals and their paleoecology. Our research subjects are listed below.
  1. Tectonic processes in orogenic zones such as Himalayas, and interaction between mountain range and monsoon climate
  2. Taxonomy, paleoecology, functional morphology and evolutionary biology based on field survey
  3. Changes of fauna through geologic time
  4. Elucidations of causes of deaths, environmental conditions, and posthumous histories of fossils based on states of preservations and modes of occurences (taphonomy)
  5. Tectonics of sedimentary basins
  6. Tectonics and evolution of terrestrial planets and satellites
The Biosphere Study Group consists of three laboratories, Paleontology, Sedimentology and Structural Geology.
